“Ghanaian Minister Calls for Enhanced Protection of Children and Women Online”

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has emphasized the need for enhanced protection of children and women online as part of efforts to promote gender equality in the digital space. Speaking at the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebration, Dr. Lartey highlighted the importance of protecting vulnerable groups from cybercrimes and ensuring their safety online.

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has been working to raise awareness about cybercrimes and cybersecurity, particularly among young people and women. Some notable initiatives include.

The Ministry has been supporting this campaign in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, Guidance and Counseling Unit, and regional sensitization events in selected senior high schools, reaching over 7,000 students and teachers.

Over 40,000 students and teachers have been sensitized across 16 regions in Ghana during the National Cyber Security Awareness Month celebration.

The Ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation to revise the framework, expanding its scope to cover all forms of online child sexual exploitation and abuse in Ghana.

Dr. Lartey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to gender-related issues, building strong partnerships to champion the rights, protection, and overall well-being of all individuals, particularly the vulnerable. This commitment is in line with the government’s efforts to reduce vulnerability and promote social protection.

The Minister urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure that information accessed by children, girls, and women online enhances their knowledge and promotes their education and general well-being. This call for collaboration is crucial in promoting digital rights and technological empowerment for girls and women.
