Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and flagbearer hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has predicted a tough contest ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. Speaking to journalists following the opening of nominations, Mr. Agyapong expressed confidence in his chances, citing strong support from the party’s grassroots.
Mr. Agyapong acknowledged that the contest would be challenging, particularly given the experience and visibility of one of his competitors, who has served as Vice President for 16 years. However, he emphasized that his own support base within the party would be critical in securing victory. “It’s going to be tough—I’m not making any bones about it,” he admitted.
The former General Secretary highlighted his strong connections with the party’s grassroots, noting that he was one of the young men who helped build the party from scratch. “The kind of support I’m getting from the party’s grassroots is strong,” he said. “They remember I was one of the young men who helped build this party from scratch.”
Mr. Agyapong emphasized that he is in the race to win and restore the party’s appeal to the broader electorate. “With me, the NPP has a clear path to unity and victory,” he declared. “I am the surest bet to regain the people’s trust and reclaim power in the next election.
