“Meatless Monday: A Global Movement for Health and Environment”
Communication initiatives for change has organized a program which is about meatless Monday. Meatless Monday is a public health initiative that seeks to reduce the incident of some preventable disease by dedicating every Monday to healthy eating.
Avoiding meat consumption at least one day a week has become a proven practice Ghanaians can adopt.
The Meatless Monday movement, a global initiative, encourages people to abstain from meat at least one day a week to promote healthy living and reduce environmental degradation. In Ghana, the movement started in 2021, with the goal of creating awareness about the impact of food consumption patterns on health and the environment.
According to Mr. Emmanuel Fiagbey Executive Director CIC, Said, the movement originated during World War I and II, where Americans saved food staples for soldiers.
Meatless Monday has become a global movement, practiced in over 40 countries, with the goal of promoting healthy living and reducing environmental degradation.
He added that, Reducing meat consumption can help prevent non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, kidney stones, obesity, and certain cancers.
Addressing declining biodiversity, land degradation, atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions, water shortage, and pollution.
Ghana joined the Meatless Monday campaign in 2021, with the aim of promoting healthy living and reducing environmental degradation. The movement encourages individuals to make conscious food choices and adopt a meatless diet at least one day a week.
