"GFZA Celebrates 30 Years of Economic Growth and Transformation"

Dr. Mary Awusi, CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), marked the organization’s 30th anniversary, highlighting its remarkable journey in promoting economic growth, investment, and industrial transformation in Ghana. Since its inception under the Free Zones Act 504 in 1995, the GFZA has grown significantly, licensing 339 enterprises with 306 active, comprising Ghanaian, foreign, and joint ventures.

Exports have grown remarkably from $145.4 million in 1997 to $2.25 billion in 2024, with $1 billion recorded in the first quarter of 2025 alone. Capital investment in 2024 reached $354.8 million, with $70 million invested in the second quarter of 2025. The program has created 40,033 direct jobs and numerous indirect jobs for local suppliers and service providers.
