Police Nab Notorious Car Thief Kingpin in Nationwide Crackdown
The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 37-year-old suspect, Nana Anderson, also known as Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Willson Kojo Bismarck, in connection with a string of vehicle thefts and rental frauds across the country. The arrest was made on April 5, 2025, at a hideout in Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumbridge in the Ashanti Region.
Details of the Arrest
Nana Anderson allegedly used forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards bearing different names but with his photograph to deceive victims into handing over vehicles. He would then fail to return the vehicles and disable their tracking systems. Investigations revealed that Anderson was part of a syndicate that stole multiple vehicles, including a Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Honda Civic, and Kia Ultima, between January and March 2025.
Modus Operandi
The suspect’s modus operandi involved:
– *Contacting car rental services*: Anderson would contact car rental companies and rent vehicles using forged identities.
Disabling tracking systems
He would disable the vehicle’s tracking system to avoid detection.
– *Selling the vehicles*: Anderson allegedly received GHC4,000 for each stolen vehicle.
Investigation and Current Status
The police are currently investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend the second suspect, Gideon Baah, who remains at large. The police have urged anyone with information regarding Baah’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.

The Ghana Police Service advises car rental services and the general public to be cautious and take steps to verify clients’ identities, use tamper-proof trackers, and report suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station.
